Mod 4.1: Creating Generative Value

This story touches on a combination of sensitive topics. Not only does it include surrogacy between two different countries but also outlines the difficulties and prejudice that people within the homosexual community are faced with when trying to become parents. Due to the fact that not only male/female couples turn to surrogacy, but because it is one of the main alternatives for gay men to pursue as an avenue for having children it has therefore drawn a lot of attention.

I feel this article is very relevant as it highlights the discriminatory actions that certain individuals are faced with when dealing with surrogacy. If a man and woman were to have gone through the same process I am quite confident in saying that they would not have endured the same discriminations that this father was faced with.

Unfortunately due to the still somewhat taboo topic of surrogacy, many groups within society still feel it necessary to condemn people who take this path. When a same sex couple embarks on a surrogacy adventure not only are they offending certain groups with taking what is deemed by those people an unnatural path, they are also bringing to the light the fact that they are homosexual which indeed opens up a whole other topic of controversy.

I feel it is important for people in this situation to have their story heard. Here is a new father with baby twins just wanting to get home and start a new life. But law makers abused their position and made it very difficult for that to happen. It seems very contradictory when you hear stories of men fathering multiple amounts of children and just abandoning them, yet they do not face such harsh stipulations when they repeat the cycle and become fathers again and no doubt abandon their new children as well, but a story of a man who was discriminated against due to his sexual preference does not make him any less of a capable loving father to those babies. I believe it is important that with the way society is progressing and changing there needs to be far more leniency and acceptance for those individuals who don’t follow the so called “normal” lifestyle which many people expect within society. After all who is to say that one persons prejudices are correct and their opinions should override and ruin another person’s life and choices.
